Saint Charles dredges Russia and England

The Independent: article of Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Fruits summer having known a succession of difficult campaigns(countrysides), Saint Charles Export's board of directors, in partnership with the Farmers' association of P.-O. and, among others, the national Association of the producers of peaches(fishing) and nectarines ( AOPN) organized a mission with four Russian buyers and four English buyers. Delegations which made the movement in several fruit cooperative companies and with independent structures in Languedoc-Roussillon, in P.-O. and the Gard. An at least convenient initiative when the French production began to suffer from a certain generally known lack, as explains it this metteur in English markets: " during our movement, we took the measure of the accomplished work. Whether it is for the plan variétal, with in particular of new varieties of apricots, or whether it is at the level of the quality and of the traceability of products. In nectarine and in peach(fishing), it was especially a question, for us, to make a point on the evolution of the orchard, because Spain had got the upper hand these last years. We noticed an adaptation to the market through the top. And it is on this qualitative segment that your regional production has to express itself ".

Avoid generally accepted ideas

The representative of the Russian delegation seemed so convinced with an interest for the apricots of big calibre and a likely approach on products as the apple, the pear or still the dessert grapes. Only drawback, the high price of our productions. Argument quickly swept(annihilated) by Alain Barniol, national president of the exporting importers of fruits and vegetables, who evoked a smoothing of the costs between French and Spanish productions by indicating that it was necessary to see again(to revise) the commonplaces according to which the French products were systematically dear(expensive). For metteurs in market of the department, the operation, supported by the Crédit Agricole and the Popular Bank, seemed so decisive: " These visits and these exchanges, beyond the commercial contacting, allowed to gauge needs expressed by our interlocutors through their respective cultures, while avoiding generally accepted ideas with potential which could turn out very consequent ".

Let us specify finally that Saint Charles Export, since his creation here is 3 years, posts(shows) a progress of the sales of 35 % concerning the local production for an amount which borders 100 million euro.
